The last full Moon of August, the 30th, was unusual. It was a blue moon. A blue moon is not blue in color. In fact, a blue moon does not look any different than a regular, monthly full moon. The blue moon is the second full moon to occur during one calendar month. In 2023, 13 full moons are expected, so one month has to have two. That month was August.
Then the last full Moon was also a supermoon. A “supermoon” appears to us as a larger-than-usual Moon in our night sky. It is a moon that reaches its full phase when it is relatively close to Earth, so appears a bit larger and brighter than average.
